Horses and Hula?!

The Coventry Farms & Oak Leaf Farms Horse Show and Luau took place Saturday, June 12, 2010. The event raised funds for grief support services to area youth through the Caring Tree Program of Big Bend Hospice. The Luau included hula dancers, bounce houses, limbo, juggling, pony rides, a cookie walk and lots of luau-themed activities for kids. Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to next year.

Alice Buford, owner/manager of Coventry Farms, located at 2244 Danshire Drive (Eastgate subdivision off Capital Circle N.E.), has hosted the Horse Show & Luau for several years along with Oak Leaf Farms  This is the sixth year Ms. Buford has chosen to benefit the Caring Tree Program.  “With my formal training as a social worker, and as someone who has personally seen how Hospice care touches the lives of patients, their families, and their friends, this benefit is my way of saying thank you to a wonderful organization,”  said Buford.

Since 1995, The Caring Tree Program has been a unique part of Big Bend Hospice, providing comfort, support, and grief education to area youth and their caregivers. Services include school and community-based grief groups, educational presentations, two annual grief camps, and crisis support in Leon and surrounding counties. This free community service helps children and teens who have experienced the anticipated, sudden, or violent death of a parent, grandparent, sibling, or other loved one.
