About the Speaker
Dr. Glenda Hodges, PhD, JD, MDiv, is the Director of the Division of Community Relations and Hospital Support Services at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, Dr. Hodges has oversight authority over multiple departments that support the outreach and day to day functions of the hospital. As a member of the executive leadership team, Dr. Hodges is involved in hospital policy making and programming. Dr. Hodges is also the Director of the Spirituality and Medicine program at Howard University College of Medicine as well as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine. In 1998, Dr. Hodges, along with Dr. Robert H. Williams MD, hosted the first Spirituality and Medicine Seminar Series. These seminars have been held yearly at the hospital since that time.
As an Ordained Itinerant Elder in the African American Methodist Episcopal Church, Dr. Hodges has been “up close and personal” with parishioners and patients who have struggled to understand the presence of a higher power as they have fought for their
lives in the midst of
various illnesses.
Dr. Hodges is the
author of two books “Spirituality and Medicine: Can the Two Walk Together”
and “Translating Spirituality
and Medicine in the
Healing Professions:
A Physician-Clergy Handbook.”
