Gifts to Big Bend Hospice may be made through many different giving vehicles. Below are just a few examples. Please call Pam Wilson at the Big Bend Hospice Foundation, 850-701-1301, to discuss ways you can give. We advise that you consult your attorney, accountant and/or other financial advisor when determining the best way to structure your gift plans
Wills / Bequests
Leave your legacy by making a gift in your will to family, friends, and charitable organizations. A bequest is a provision in one’s last will and testament where a gift or property is transferred from an estate to a charitable organization. It is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about most; your will gives you the opportunity to make charitable gifts that have personal significance to you.
Benefits to you:
- Distribute property as you wish instead of as the law determines
- Provide protection for dependents
- Create a meaningful legacy by directing charitable donations from your estate
Gifts of Life Insurance
Life insurance gifts empower you to make a generous financial contribution to Big Bend Hospice when you may not have many assets. There are several ways that you can structure this gift by making Big Bend Hospice the owner and beneficiary of:
- An existing fully purchased life insurance policy
- An existing policy on which you are still making payments
- A newly purchased policy
Benefits to you:
- Deduct an amount equal to the approximate cash value in the year you make the gift
- Deduct future payments
- Proceeds may not be included in your estate for tax purposes
Gifts of Appreciated Property or Stock
You may have appreciated property or stock that is now worth more than what you paid for this asset. Instead of selling this asset for the appreciated value, receiving the money, paying capital gains tax, and then making a contribution – save on taxes!
If you make an outright donation of the asset to a charitable organization, you avoid capital gains tax and receive the full market value for your tax deduction. For stock donations, this value is based on the average of high and low price for the day donated.
Benefits to you:
- Avoid capital gains tax on the increase in asset value
- Receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value
