Spiritual Care at Big Bend Hospice

“Don’t come to me with answers that can only come from me… just hold my hand
and let me cry and say friend, I care.”

Our Spiritual Care program focuses on offering support to patients and families based on each person’s unique spirituality.  Big Bend Hospice is committed to providing the support needed to complete the spiritual journey of life.  We have chaplains who are available to visit patients:

  • to listen
  • to encourage patients and families to articulate what gives their lives meaning and purpose
  • to offer scripture or inspirational readings
  • to pray in a manner consistent with the patient’s beliefs
  • to conduct rites or rituals as requested
  • to assist with the planning and/or conducting of memorial or funeral services

Big Bend Hospice chaplains recognize the importance of working closely with local clergy to provide spiritual care to our patients and do not interfere in relationships between clergy and their congregation members.  Our chaplains seek to support the clergy’s role and partner with them to provide additional spiritual comfort and strength.  Each quarter our Spiritual Care department hosts a Breaking Bread luncheon for area spiritual leaders. This is a time for fellowship and education to assist them in caring for members of their congregation with a life threatening illness.  These luncheons are open to all members of the clergy.  Please contact our spiritual care department for more information.
