Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Big Bend Hospice.  Whether you serve directly with patients and their families or volunteer in a support position, you will play an important role in the care of patients with life-limiting illnesses.  Volunteers truly are the heart of Hospice.
Due to the nature of our work, volunteers are exposed to sensitive material and situations.  That is why we invest time in screening and training all BBH volunteers.  Our volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year of service.
The first part of screening involves completing an application by following the link below and contacting our volunteer department at 850.878.5310 to set up the 30-minute interview.  Your application will be reviewed during this meeting and the volunteer coordinator will answer any questions you may have about the variety of volunteer opportunities at BBH.
If you and the coordinator both determine that this is a suitable placement for you, your name will be placed on the roster for our next volunteer orientation.  Every volunteer participates in a full day of training, held on designated times (usually on Saturdays) throughout the year.
In addition to successfully completing this application and attending an orientation session, you will be required to take a two-step (4 visits) TB test and show no evidence of active TB. If you have TB test results from within the past year, we will accept a copy of the negative test result. If you have a clear chest x-ray completed in the past 5 years, we will accept a copy.   If not, we will provide TB test authorization and instructions at your orientation.
Also required is a Level 2 Background Screen which includes fingerprinting.   This will be done in our office during orientation or through a scheduled appointment after you attend orientation. At your appointment you will be expected to provide your name, address, Social Security Number, driver’s license number and date of birth.   Fingerprints from other sources will not be accepted.
Once your prescreening and training is completed, you will be assigned to a volunteer coordinator who will meet with you one-on-one for additional instructions before your first assignment.
We look forward to you becoming part of the BBH team!
